And we are off! Off to the corgi races that is. But I have to tell you, the little doggies have a lot more energy than I do right now. The corgi races are my birthday present to myself. And I have earned this! I have said no to every single activity this week. I said no to my actual birthday – I didnt go out, I just stayed home and let a match extinguish itself in my cupcake. I said no to a concert with a friend that I desperately want to spend time with (plus it actually hurts my soul to say no to concerts), I said no to a creativemornings event (i live for these meetings – they are amazing, if your city has a chapter- GO!), and I said no to an excursion to the art gallery. All in preparation for tonight’s races.

Leading up to tonight’s event, I took the day off work, so I could be well rested. I did some laundry, so I could wear something cute (what I am choosing to wear is quite different though – it’s basically a 1/2 step above pajamas, and not at all appropriate, but it is comfortable); and drank a lot of water, so I would be hydrated for tonight.

I hate that my life has come down to this – saying no to everything that I want to do, just so that I can say yes to the thing I am most looking forward to. But sacrifices need to be made when one is battling a lung illness. And I know that my body will thank me for saying yes to one thing rather than the 17 things I wanted to do this week. I am disappointed but actually quite proud of myself.

My name is Laura. This blog will serve as documentation on a 90 day (and perhaps longer) commitment to new self-care practices. If you find yourself here, you will join me in daily walks by the water, and occasional forest or tree lined street, new to me healthy recipes, some lessons discovered during therapy sessions, reading a few books, watching a few movies, and finding some fun. This journey into self-care will revolve around my core values of curiosity, creativity, inclusion, accountability, and harmony.

Welcome.
