I am lucky enough to work from home. Which means most of the time (99.5%) I can wear whatever I want to work – and for the times that I have to dress somewhat professionally, I can throw a turtleneck sweater over my tshirt/pajama top/tank and drag a comb through my hair, slop on some moisturizer and dab on some lip gloss and mascara, and I am camera ready. Yesterday, was a non-camera day – and I was feeling a bit tired. Not terrible. I wasn’t sick. But I had been feeling a bit like something really massive had shifted, and wearing real clothes and sitting at my desk was a bit too much of an effort for me.

So instead, I made yesterday a pajama day. A day where I wore my most favourite pajamas (they are covered in lemons), and I dragged my laptop into my bed, turned on the twinkle lights, and worked amongst the pillows and a stuffed bear for companionship and spent the entire day in comfort. And it felt deserved and glorious.

This is not something I can do everyday – because I think it causes bad habits. And I tend to fall asleep if I am in bed for more than an hour. That didnt happen this time because I brought a French press of coffee into bed with me, and let it steep on my bed tray, while I sipped and worked.

Sometimes when your body tells you it’s had enough, you have to listen. You dont have to call in sick – but you do have to compromise. And yesterday I did just that, and I feel worlds better today because I listened to myself.

If you dont think that self care is wearing your pajamas all day. Then you need better pajamas. I recommend these ones.

My name is Laura. This blog will serve as documentation on a 90 day (and perhaps longer) commitment to new self-care practices. If you find yourself here, you will join me in daily walks by the water, and occasional forest or tree lined street, new to me healthy recipes, some lessons discovered during therapy sessions, reading a few books, watching a few movies, and finding some fun. This journey into self-care will revolve around my core values of curiosity, creativity, inclusion, accountability, and harmony.

Welcome.
