It is currently 4:08 AM and I have been awake for 2 hours and 8 minutes exactly. In that time, I have tossed and turned about 100 times, I have prayed that sleep would return. I have grabbed my phone and looked at instagram for about 30 minutes to make myself feel bad thinking about everyone else’s extra glamourous lives. I have even turned to Insight Timer for a meditation. It’s clear that I have finished sleeping for the night.

I am giving up. There is no point in trying. Sleep just wont come. So I am going to do the responsible thing for a woman who is making self care her priority. I am giving up. I am going to finish this blog post in 5 minutes or less. I am going to get out of bed, and I am going to drag out my yoga mat and stretch for the next 30 minutes. Then I am going to get dressed properly – which means put on clothes that dont have Dalmatian’s on them – put on running shoes and go grab some Starbucks and go for a walk for the next hour+ before I have to be back at my desk for 7AM.

I hope you are having a wonderful sleep with entertaining dreams right now. If you are – I am envious. But apparently the universe has other plans for me today.

My name is Laura. This blog will serve as documentation on a 90 day (and perhaps longer) commitment to new self-care practices. If you find yourself here, you will join me in daily walks by the water, and occasional forest or tree lined street, new to me healthy recipes, some lessons discovered during therapy sessions, reading a few books, watching a few movies, and finding some fun. This journey into self-care will revolve around my core values of curiosity, creativity, inclusion, accountability, and harmony.

Welcome.
