Jetlag

I believe the jet lag has hit. It’s 4pm local time. I got up 7 hours ago, made some coffee, ate some breakfast, did 20 minutes of yoga, and went back to bed – and have been in and out of sleep ever since.

With the exception of drawing a bunch of animals inside a 2” x 2” box, and drawing a bunch of animals escaping a 2” x 2” box (thank you, Nick Banktok)- I have not done anything creative today. I haven’t written a sentence. Or made a plan for my book. I have not even created a note card or put a post it on the wall.

I have stared out the window at a bunch of trees and tried to see the sea through them (I imagine the sea is behind them, even though I know that directly behind the trees is farmland). I have spent the greatest amount of time on this activity today – approx 3 hours.

I want to create today. But my head is so fuzzy. I am in Finland to write my book. I have a half baked plan. But for the most part this book is writing itself. And sometimes I feel like it doesn’t even need me to participate. Today is one of those days. Not that the book resents me. But I do feel like all I do is hold a pen in my hand. And then the characters take over – and the pen starts moving, and i don’t even know what is happening. And I would be doing that exact thing right now, except that I am too tired to sit in a proper chair.

Hopefully one more night of sleep will get me to feel somewhat normal, and then I can start being productive.

*No tea consumed yet. But my creative prompt for the day is to spend 5 minutes sipping tea. So a creative act may actually be accomplished today after all.

My name is Laura. This blog will serve as documentation on a 90 day (and perhaps longer) commitment to new self-care practices. If you find yourself here, you will join me in daily walks by the water, and occasional forest or tree lined street, new to me healthy recipes, some lessons discovered during therapy sessions, reading a few books, watching a few movies, and finding some fun. This journey into self-care will revolve around my core values of curiosity, creativity, inclusion, accountability, and harmony.

Welcome.
