I left Monday afternoon (I think the local time in Vancouver is midnight Tuesday/wednesday). It’s 10 am Wednesday and I am in Finland. I spent yesterday at the Paris and Stockholm airports. I saw a tiny bit of Stockholm yesterday. Only enough to know that I want to return and explore. And took an overnight ferry from Stockholm to Turku – and arrived 7:30 this morning (local time).

What a beautiful ferry trip. Too bad it was dark – but it was lovely looking at all the lights. It must be extraordinary to take that trip during daylight hours to see all the islands and archipelagos.

I am staying the night in Turku, and taking the bus to Korpo tomorrow afternoon.

And based on what has already happened on this trip – my time at the AARK will be filled to the brim with stories.

I have already met some people who will show up in my book (all identities will be disguised to protect the guilty )

Today I am going to walk along the Aurajoki, and go to the Sibelius museum, and maybe check out some markets. There is a concert tonight at the museum – but sleep might have to come first.

Below are the only 2 photos I took in Stockholm. I don’t know who the statue is a tribute to -but if I was him, I would be a little annoyed to know a seagull has taken up residence on my head.

A statue of a man in a coat standing on a pedestal, with a seagull perched on his head, in a public square surrounded by trees and buildings.
View of a tall church steeple with green roofs and red brick walls, framed by modern buildings on either side.

I didn’t get a chance to visit S:ta Clara kyrka, but when I get back to Stockholm for an extended visit, I intend to spend some time there. I am a little obsessed. And while the photo doesn’t show how magnificent the building looks with the shadows from the clouds moving over the facade – just being in its presence is quite inspiring.

Oh there is also a win of the day. For the very first time, I successfully drank a cup of coffee without milk in it. Only because I couldn’t find milk at the restaurant – and no one at the other tables was drinking milk in their coffees. And I didn’t want to be shamed for being oh, I don’t know – irregular/strange/have bad taste in coffee.

*no tea today. Just delicious black coffee

My name is Laura. This blog will serve as documentation on a 90 day (and perhaps longer) commitment to new self-care practices. If you find yourself here, you will join me in daily walks by the water, and occasional forest or tree lined street, new to me healthy recipes, some lessons discovered during therapy sessions, reading a few books, watching a few movies, and finding some fun. This journey into self-care will revolve around my core values of curiosity, creativity, inclusion, accountability, and harmony.

Welcome.
