My inner 12 year old (the healthy version) lives in Turku. And I found her hanging out at the Ars Nova, specifically the Lissa Beckmann’s exhibit. There is a lot to love about this exhibit about female sexual empowerment. But when I came across the Liszt, Chopin, and Marconi pillows, the sketches of Dante, and the print of the Profilo di Chopin (1978), I couldn’t stifle my giggles. I know there is a lot to take in with these pieces. There is a lot of intellectual curiosity in these pieces. They discuss themes like patriarchy, genius mythology, erotic symbolism, absence. But all I could see were “dickheads”. And then I laughed and laughed and laughed. Good one Lisa Beckmann!

Here is what I am talking about

I need to find a reproduction of that Chopin print. If anyone has any idea of where I can find one – let me know stat!.

Next time I am in Turku, I will stroll through the museum gift shop to see if they have one – or really any of her work, because that woman was a genius.

My name is Laura. This blog will serve as documentation on a 90 day (and perhaps longer) commitment to new self-care practices. If you find yourself here, you will join me in daily walks by the water, and occasional forest or tree lined street, new to me healthy recipes, some lessons discovered during therapy sessions, reading a few books, watching a few movies, and finding some fun. This journey into self-care will revolve around my core values of curiosity, creativity, inclusion, accountability, and harmony.

Welcome.
